Stop the Timesheet Madness with Time-Tracking Software

Stop the Timesheet Madness with Time-Tracking Software

Still using traditional paper timesheets and their accompanying honour system? Stop that madness! Ain’t nobody got time for that! Thanks to technology, we can improve all sorts of processes … like tracking work hours! Got employees? You should use time-tracking software. Got a desk in your home office with a fat cat on your lap and a list of freelance projects to complete? You should use time-tracking software.

Whatchu talking about, Ninjas?

We’re talking about web-based computer software that tracks time for you with the simple click of the mouse. Sounds easy, right? That’s because it is! Time-tracking software is quick and easy to set up with each software platform working similarly. There may be slight differences in processes but they all basically involve creating projects and tasks. Sometimes an administrator assigns specific tasks to specific users, and other times, a user takes a few seconds to create their own tasks. Once the user has installed the software and/or app, they just select (or create) a task, and click a button to begin (and end) timing their hours. We told you it was easy!

Let’s talk options.

Google will show you a multitude of time-tracking software options. There are so many! Lucky for you, we took a look at 3 popular options for which we will give you the key features, some insight into our favourite nifty features, pricing, and what the word on the interweb is. We’ll also give you plenty of links for further information so you don’t have to read Copy Ninja Jen’s nattering for 12 hours.

We still love Copy Ninja Jen though, right? Right? Hello?

Ahem. Anywho … let’s get on with it!

3 Popular Time-Tracking Software Options

Let’s take a step away from the timesheet madness and take a look at Time Doctor, Hubstaff, and Toggl. Of course, we can’t tell you which platform we’re using here, at Business Tech Ninjas, because then our bias would be showing. Not even Chinese torture will make us tell!

Unless you have tacos. Do you have tacos? We could sure go for some tacos. No tacos, huh? What about cookies? Got any of those? No cookies either, huh? Coffee?

Oh fine. It’s Time Doctor. We use Time Doctor. So forgive us if we have a touch more to say about Time Doctor because you didn’t bring snacks.

A Nifty Feature to Note

Bread and butter, cheese and wine, sunblock and beaches – they’re perfect pairings (especially sunblock and beaches – protect your skin, people)! The same holds true for Time Doctor and Wrike. Sure, you can have one without the other, but why? They work so well together!

For those of you aren’t familiar with it, Wrike is online project management software that helps individuals and businesses stay organized and manage workflow through folders, projects, and tasks. Put simply, tasks are assigned to workers for completion, often with a due date. They can change the status of their tasks to “working on” or “complete” and even add comments and attachments. Once a user has Time Doctor installed, they can sync it to Wrike with a few simple clicks and voila! The Wrike tasks appear in Time Doctor, ready for time tracking. Beautiful, right?
If you don’t already have Wrike, you can find more information on it here.

What about the price tag?

Time Doctor has a limited-feature free plan or a flat fee of $9.99 USD per user per month (with all the features). They also offer a free 14-day trial of the whole kit and caboodle, which you can check out here.
